Credit Searches, Data Usage and Consent
In order to process your loan application and provide you with an accurate quote Loan.co.uk Limited and our lenders may need to conduct credit searches relating to you and anyone you are financially linked to using credit reference agencies. The credit reference agencies will supply us with information from the Electoral Register and also provide us with details of your credit information. The search, which is carried out at this point, is known as an ‘Enquiry Search’, which, does not impact on your credit rating. This search can also be referred to as a ‘soft search’ or ‘quotation search’. You and anyone with whom you are financially linked will be able to see this credit search on your credit report if you obtain it but lenders will not take this type of search into consideration in the future when making a decision on whether or not they give you credit. The credit reference agencies do record details of the search and whether or not this application proceeds.
Once we have provided you with your quote we hope you decide to proceed with one of the loan products we present to you. If you do, we, or your chosen lender, may then decide to perform an Application Search to further verify credit worthiness, identities and prevent financial crime. These searches may affect your credit score. They are searches that lenders you may approach in the future could use as part of their overall decision to lend.
Credit reference agencies may already hold information about the applicants which already link their records to one or more other parties (husbands, wives, other relations, partners, members of a shared household). If this happens, you may be treated as financially linked and the application may be assessed with reference to any associated records for the purpose of making a decision.
Loan.co.uk Limited may also use credit-scoring to assess your application. We may also use other information provided to us by credit reference agencies to verify your identity. We have an obligation as a regulated financial institution to prevent, detect and report fraudulent activity and as a result we may use fraud detection agencies. These agencies supply us with information to verify all applicants. We may also pass information to other organisations involved in fraud prevention to protect Loan.co.uk and all of our customers from fraud.
We and other carefully selected organisations may contact you by email, telephone, letter, SMS or other social media to offer other products, which may be of interest and benefit to you. You may not wish to be contacted with such offers. If not, please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org expressing your desire to be opted out if you did not opt out on your original application.
